The old railway station of Evrychou village was restored in the recent years and is available for visits by the public.
The construction of the Cyprus railway was one of the pioneer works carried out by the British during their rule of Cyprus (1878 - 1960).
The railway started at the town of Famagusta and ended at the large village of Evrychou.
At the station of Evrychou large loads of timber, coal and other products from the Troodos forest area were loaded on trains for transfer to the rest of Cyprus.
The construction and demolition of the railway was gradual, the first train starting in 1905 and the last in 1951. The railway of cyprus was finally abandoned in 1951 after the british government concluded that it was not advantageous any more for the economy of the island.
