Yet it's so touristy at Asakusa, Taitō-ku, it is still a great area to visit among hundreds of Tokyo neighborhood.
It's very catchy there, with some traditional spots to see like Asakusa Sensō-ji Temple, Hanayashiki amusement park, and its vast "Shitamachi" (down-to-earth working class neighborhood). It was nearing new year's day so quite a few people were dressed in kimono too. If you are just visiting Tokyo in your Japan trip, this is a must-see neighborhood for sure.

The tallest tower in the entire Japan now is Skytree, reaching 634 metres, which is the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa.
Seeing the city of Tokyo spreading so far and so dense is a stunning experience.

I always miss this time of the year in Japan! New Year's Day is quite special for us - we often go to shrines to pray for one year's good luck, good health etc, some wear Kimono, some just go shopping... Asakusa is a good area for catching the interesting mix of tradition in the modern Tokyo city.
We got to see lots of tourists crowding at every street of Asakusa, some are taking photos with the new "Tokyo Sky Tree" (the tallest building in Japan, some drinking and eating traditional Japanese food / drinks including the weird "Hoppy", some police watching the crowd for safety etc. New Year's time in Japan can be fun, stressful, interesting, or odd sometimes.
