Seated, headless, statue of a woman, probably a goddess (though exactly which can be debated), from the east pediment of the Parthenon, on display at British Museum.
Also known as the Elgin marbles (named after Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, who bought the pieces in 1801 and brought them from Athens to England), they were originally made some time 447–438 BC, in the workshop of the Greek artist Phidias.
