Buenos Aires Day 1, Argentina

So our first day in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Right now it's in the middle of spring here. The Brazilian native Jacaranda trees are all over the city of Buenos Aires, and they are blooming!

Just like cherry blossoms in Japan, isn't that nice to have seasonal change with lots of blossoms for limited time only? These purple petals are all over the city right now and we are glad we made it in time before the petals are all gone!

Besides Jacaranda, there are so many trees in Buenos Aires that you don't see very often in other parts of the world. More photographs to come...

Synagogue: Templo Libertad (Sinagoga de la Congregación Israelita Argentina), Buenos Aires, Argentina

Argentina has a very large Jewish immigrants from areas like Spain, Eastern Europe, Central Europe etc dated back from 16th centuries and so on. Argentina is a home of largest Jewish population in the entire Latin America even after some Jewish immigrated to Israel, North America etc around 1970s.

This synagogue "Templo Libertad" is the largest synagogue in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. While synagogues often do not have too much of decorative elements like catholic churches in Argentina, still it was an impressive architecture in Buenos Aires. The famous opera theater Teatro Colón is located right next to it, and that day they had a few opera singers and musicians from Theatro Colón for a few little performances within the synagogue.

La Boca, Buenos Aires, Argentina

We got to visit La Boca, the hometown of one of the most respected soccer (fútbol) team, Boca Juniors.

It is one of the most popular soccer teams in Argentina to my knowledge, just like Juventus in Italy and wow, it is amazingly popular here in La Boca district. So many things were painted to their colors (blue and gold) in this town where many low-incomes of Buenos Aires. Houses, electrical poles, bakery, so many things were painted in these two colors to show their passionate support for this great team. I got to visit their famous stadium La Bombonera as well. Cementerio de la Recoleta / Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires, Arg by takasphoto.com

Cementerio de la Recoleta / Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires, Arg

While Latin American countries tend to put much of effort into building decorative graves, this Recoleta Cemetery is one of the most impressive and expansive ones I've ever seen.

Located in the neighborhood of Recoleta, very near the business district of Buenos Aires, many tourists visit this place especially to spot some well-known people's graves like past presidents of Argentina, politicians, military heroes, musicians, actors, etc.

Some graves are made of cheaper materials like concrete while some others were made of marble or stones. I must say some graves had very impressive decorative elements in them.

The famous Eva Perón, known as Evita, also rests in peace here.

Rubber Fig (Ficus Elastica), Buenos Aires Day 1, Argentina

Imagine how long, how many years this huge tree has been watching the people pass by in the busy district of Buenos Aires...

Not only Jacaranda, but Buenos Aires has many tropical and exotic plants growing.

This "rubber fig (ficus elastica) was one of these - we thought we might've seen them in Vietnam too, and they grow so tall - 30-50 metres or so at maximum. These are crazy large trees! I read that these are originally from India - Indonesia areas in Asia then they got planted in different countries, from south America to warm areas of North America, like Florida.
