PERSONAL FUN FACT: I don't think I ever anticipated how very fond of this doll I would grow to be, when Dad bought me her back in 2003. Around that time was when my Kelly collection flourished. Colleen had recently given me all of her Kelly dolls and associated goodies during the summer of 2002. After Mom passed away, Dad started taking Colleen and me out toy shopping every weekend. On Friday nights, we'd go for pizza and we'd stop at KB Toys most of the time. Then on Sunday we'd hit up a few flea markets...this was Dad's way of dealing with the grief. Anyways, I got Desiree on one of these outings. I'm pretty sure I picked her out at KB Toys, but it's been so long, that I don't have a specific memory. I didn't care for her lion costume, but the doll herself captivated me. I always had a particular fancy for ethnic dolls. I loved Desiree's medium skin tone and light brown hair. Dad bought me Kelly dolls all the time back then, so it's shocking that this one impulsive purchase became so special. I grew attached to Desiree very quickly. I loved how she looked in my Kelly clothes, and there was something about her that made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I liked her just as much as my Love 'n Care Kelly, named Jamie, who also joined the family around that time frame. Desiree stuck around our doll games for several years, and became a staple in the doll family. Sometimes I'd swap her out for another doll, but she'd always make a quick comeback. When I look at Desiree dearest, I feel like a little kid again. She reminds me so very much of those countless hours we spent sprawled out on the carpet, basking in the sun, while we played with our dolls in Memeré's vacated bedroom (which later became Colleen's room).

PERSONAL FUN FACT: If you've read any of my other "Personal Fun Facts" on my Kelly costumes, then you'd know that I never really enjoyed playing with them. I somehow always wanted the Kelly doll that was being sold in the most useless, gimmicky outfit. This meant that I had to rely heavily on buying extra fashion packs in order for my dolls to have everyday, casual wear. I will say that Desiree's lion getup is one of the cutest costumes in my collection. It even has an adorable tail! My major issue with it is actually that it is VERY difficult to put on Miss Desiree. The furry sleeves tend to get caught on Desiree's tiny thumbs. As a kid, I would get very frustrated when trying to use this outfit (I think I might have wanted to use it as pajamas on a few occasions). I'm very surprised I didn't make holes in the sleeves from trying to force them over her thumbs!
