Since originally filming my 2009-2013 Barbie collection video, I have amassed quite a few newer Barbies. Being that it is the start of a new decade, I thought it would be fun to update this video, to showcase all the dolls I have from the past decade! I hope you enjoy.

PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: I remember when I first found out about these Fashionistas. I was just looking at Flickr photos one night and this Barbie popped up in my feed. At first, I thought she was somebody's custom project, and then I thought it just looked too good to be someone's custom--she looked factory! I clicked the picture and it looked like, based on tags/the description, that she was not a really convincing custom, but an actual creation. My mind zoomed back to reading in a magazine, in my childhood, about how a guy built a dollhouse for Barbie's friend Becky--wheelchair accessible-- and how cool would it be if they actually made a Barbie with a prosthetic leg? So, I googled and the doll popped up--stock photos, boxed photos, people's actual dolls. She was real! And she was fabulous! I put her on my mental wish list, but didn't actually see her at stores, as Shelly usually does our shopping without me. I really wanted her. Like Becky, this doll was meant to be differently abled and I thought that was really cool!

Over the coming months, the lovely Fashionista doll slipped my mind. As ever, I was thinking about the Babysitter's Inc. Skippers whenever I was at a store. Plus, after we tracked Cecile down for our American Girl collection, I became more obsessed than ever with getting a Rebecca. I also spent a lot of time thinking about the Harry Potter Yule Ball line. And, as always, there were the passing distractions--like hearing about other cool things like the Creatable World dolls, the new career Barbies, the Fashionista Kens...The world of dolls never ceases to intrigue me and distractions are easy to find. So, I'd nearly forgotten about this doll when we did Secret Santa at work.

The staff that works in my classroom, at my friend Courtney's suggestion, did a Secret Santa in 2019. We each pulled one name out of a container. Being me...Well, I'm not that secretive and have a big mouth and no poker face. I'd be terrible if I ever wanted to lead a life of crime. Everytime we discussed Secret Santa and the friend I'd chosen out of the hat was in the room, I had to avoid her gaze! Kristina, however, had a MUCH better poker face. Two weeks went by and I'd never have guessed that she was my Secret Santa! I'd even picked her brain about what I was going to get somebody else! When we exchanged packages...well, one can always secretly hope for a Barbie. When I picked up my bag of goodies, it felt like there COULD be a Barbie in there--but can you imagine my surprise and delight upon realizing that it was THIS doll? I honestly can't remember ever having told Kristina, at any point, about wanting this doll. (Of course, as I'm known to tell EVERYONE about EVERYTHING, it doesn't surprise me that I did.) Her memory must be better than mine.

Getting this beauty as a treasured gift from a friend makes her even more special. Right away, I figured I had to name her. I told my friend Stef (when we were cleaning the room together at the end of the day) "She should have a name. What do you think I should name her?" and she suggested "Veronica." I like the name, so it stuck. I can call her Vicky or Ronnie for short. Actually, when it dawned on me that there is a Veronica on King of Queens, I liked the name even more! I think it suits her exotic features--her dark hair, bright lips...she looks like a girl full of personality and energy.

Her prosthetic leg can actually be pulled off! It is really cool and realistic. At first, I thought her leg was just painted a different color than the other one and that it was just a regular leg. However, a second glance shows that it's a completely different mold--it has grooves on the thigh, the knee joint looks higher up, and has another "joint" near her ankle. As she is from a budget line, neither of her legs actually bend, it's just supposed to look like her prosthetic leg is as functional as a normal one. Anyway, she is loads of fun to play with and a very special gift!

PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: I like how Veronica (Fashionistas #121) came with a normal pair of shoes. It increases both her own versatility and that of her outfit. I also like the shoes themselves. They are really versatile sneakers that could be worn like flats with a simple dress (like this one) or with jeans while she's taking her morning run down the block. The dress itself is really cute. it is a really nice, soft material. The blue color looks really good with her dark hair and tan skin, even though, if I was dressing her myself, I'd probably choose a warm color. The ruffly sleeves are charming. The triangular stripes add dimension and detail. The hem is cute and sporty looking and actually quite well made, especially for a budget doll. The dress is actually sporty and dressy, all at once. My only complaint? As a result of the way the hem is made, the cut of the dress, and her hard plastic legs...Well, it just rides up a lot! It would be a classy dress if it stayed down!
