The extruded roof shapes provide the enclose for the southern entry stair leading to the sacred Shwedagon Pagoda. Photo was taken 40 years ago, and recent photos show that the rustic roofs now have a more heavily ornamented/glamorized appearance. Yangon (formerly Rangoon), in Myanmar (formerly Burma).

Shwedagon is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar (formerly Burma). Located in the city of Yangon (formerly Rangoon) and also formerly the capital city of Myanmar.
The structure with a multiple spires in the foreground is the roof of the stair leading to the gilded stupa containing relics of Buddhas.
I remember this as being south entrance to the pagoda, but I can't match it to views shown on Google Maps.
