An old amateur photograph of tank locomotive No. 41855, I think this may have been taken in the sidings at Skipton.
The photo is stuck in a old rail enthusiast album, unfortunately there is no date or photographer name, but they do appear to date from 1950s/60s.
This was a S. Johnson designed class 1121, 0-6-0T engine, built by Sharp Stewart and new to the Midland Railway (MR) in Apr 1895, carrying No. 2248 (renumbered as 1855 in 1907). In Jan 1923 most railway companies were grouped into four main companies, MR becoming part of London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS). In 1948 the railways were nationalised, becoming British Railways (BR), engine No. 1855 became No. 41855 in Apr 1950. The locomotive was withdrawn from service by BR in May 1960, then scrapped the following month, location unknown.
