It suddenly turned into the 'ABC Interchange', as not only the Olympian turned up, but also two other vehicles on service. That shouldn't have been a surprise, though, as owner Dave Garnett was always looking for ways to create new travel opportunities, so by co-ordinating timetables and creating this meeting point, passengers were able to swap between routes and have long trips out.
Earier in the year, Dave had won a 5-year Lancashire CC contract to run the 280 between Preston and Skipton, with the bonus of commercial extensions to and from Southport, as seen here. Being a long-term user of Optare Metroriders, he had no hesitation in taking a pair of DAF SB220-based Deltas for the 280. One was a former demonstrator, but this one came brand new.
It was here for 5 years until 1999 when Dave sold out to CMT at Aintree. It stayed there for 5 years until CMT sold out to Glenvale in 2004. It then had a couple of years in the Tyrer Bus fleet at Nelson, before finding its longest home in 2008, with OR Jones at Llanfaethlu, Anglesey, who ran it until 2015.
