Not sure how to explain this one other than to say it is a bit stream of consciousness. I think about how austere nun are often portrayed. Not saying that there is not truth in that but I get the feeling that Julian was not austere. she was generous and humble. To her the towns people were as the wild flowers that the one nun stopped to enjoy. Mass was not a requirement it was a treat. To say Julian was a contradiction is not fair to her. Rather she demonstrates how contradictions can also be truth. That people are complex and capable of containing opposite characteristics with grace. Just a rambling , under educated , pondering.
