In this image from a video captured by the Mastcam-Z camera aboard NASA's Perseverance Mars rover, the Ingenuity helicopter makes its first flight. This was the first instance of powered, controlled flight on another planet. The video is available at photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA24583
Designed to be a technology demonstration that would make no more than five test flights in 30 days, the Ingenuity helicopter eventually completed 72 flights in just under 3 years. Its mission was completed on January 25, 2024.
