Boarding time at Barra (EGPR), BN Islander 1/72

I know I have been posting my plane models a lot, but only one hadn’t yet had her turn being pictured on the Barra runway diorama. G-BOMG, Britten Norman Islander - British Airways livery, operated by Loganair for both commercial passenger and air ambulance services o.b.o Scottish Ambulance Service.

Admittedly I had been holding back on giving Mike Golf a Barra photoshoot, I was awaiting delivery of an Oxford Diecast model - the Royal Air Force, Range Rover Gloster Saro TACR2. I removed the RAF decals and applied the thin yellow line, painted the blue warning beacon orange, added two blue lights of my own and changed the registration plates to civilian (which actually belong on a minibus).

Like other small or low frequency airports around the world, Firefighters at Barra have secondary duties once the aircraft is safely parked on the sand; baggage handling, marshalling, FOD inspections etc. I have depicted two ARFF Firefighters doing just that, one checking the chocks are in place and the other carrying luggage.

The Truck Firefighting Airfield Crash Rescue 2 Tonne 6x4 Mark 2, Range Rover (TACR2) is a diecast model by Oxford, 1:76 scale. Originally bearing military VRM plates, and with “Royal Air Force” on the sides, an RAF roundel and Union Flag on the rear. I removed these with cotton buds and nail polish remover. I added the thin yellow line along the sides, painted the blue warning light orange, added two blue warning lights and applied civilian VRM plates (which in reality belong on a minibus). This will primarily be found as part of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) team on the Barra layout.

Edinburgh to Poitiers by Ryanair

Off on a visit to see family in France, Ryanair offering bargain prices between Edinburgh Airport & Poitiers. All went very smoothly, no delays at Security, flight on time. A beautiful departure to the east from runway 06, this meant superb views of the 3 bridges crossing the Firth of Forth; Forth Rail Bridge, Forth Road Bridge & Queensferry Crossing. Before I knew it we were landing (surprisingly smoothly for Ryanair) on runway 21 at Poitiers-Baird. A few days later and it was time to fly back, entirely in reverse - departure from runway 03 and approach and landing on Edinburgh’s 06. Again the return flight left bang on time and arrived so early that ground crew weren’t ready, though were quickly in place and I was across the Border/through Customs and about to board the coach back to Glasgow by the time we were actually scheduled to land.
