For Canada, one of the biggest markets is traffic between itself and their southerly neighbour, the United States; American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines all have a major presence, either operating flights themselves or via their regional subsidiaries.
American Airlines was one of the earliest customers for the Boeing 737 MAX, and were the first North American to take delivery of the type by mid-2017. The creation of the Boeing 737 MAX can be thanks to American Airlines, who ordered 460 narrow-body jet back in mid-2011 with Airbus being the big winner. American Airlines did give a condition that on top of the 100 Boeing 737-800s they would order, an additional order for 100 Boeing 737 would be considered if Boeing pursued the re-engine programme.
Boeing of course this pursue the programme and by early-2013, American Airlines placed an order for 130 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. Over 10 years later, American Airlines placed further orders in early-2024, 30 of the existing Boeing 737 MAX 8 order went over to the larger Boeing 737 MAX 10 and in total have 115 of the type on-order, with American Airlines to take on only 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
Currently, American Airlines operates 378 Boeing 737s, which includes 303 Boeing 737-800s and 75 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. American Airlines have 25 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 115 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on-order.
