I found a sighting of a rare snake in this area on iNaturalist, put the spot on Google Maps, and drove into the mist and mess. It turned out the road was overgrown, covered in fallen rocks, stones and branches and collapsed in some places. I finally reached an impassable spot and luckily had a small area, exactly where I had to pull up, which I could back into and escape back down hill from. It was pretty scary, but did at least turn up a couple of interesting finds, such as this endemic orange-bellied treefrog (Zhangixalus aurantiventris).
