A pair of female Harlequin Ducks are only the third record in Texas, much to the delight of birders across the state. For nearly a month now, they've been hanging out along a long rock jetty that extends nearly 3/4ths of a mile into the Gulf of Mexico. The Texas coast is wholly lacking in large rocky shoreline, but this man-made structure seems to provide just what this species needs, as they dive for small fish and mussels.
