Doing Things I Won't Forget!

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views along a hike of the Black Butte Trail in Shasta–Trinity National Forest.

This was an idea I got from an Instagram post a few weeks back. This person had captured an image of herself with some high heels on inside a car. I liked the idea of that, but I wanted to capture an image that was more in my style with mountains all around while hiking. I chose the backdrop of Mount Shasta for my take on that image.

A View Beyond a Windshield to Forest in Yosemite National Park

An image captured while enjoying a ride in a forested section along Big Oak Flat Road around the Crane Flat area of Yosemite National Park. The view is looking to the east.

Good Morning, Sunshine! (Glacier National Pari)

While at the Many Glacier Hotel and a balcony view of the sun rising over a nearby ridge to the east. This is in Glacier National Park. My thought on composing this image was to wait until the sun had crusted enough over the hillside of trees. I wanted a roundness to the sun's appearance. I also closed down on the aperture in order to bring out more of a starburst look with the sunlight. The rest was metering properly to not blow any of the highlights from the sun while still being able to pull the more shadowed areas later on and post-production.

I Had a Dream I Was Walking with the Hoodoos Today (Bryce Canyon National Park)

A setting looking to the east while walking the Navajo Loop and taking in views across eroded formations and hoodoos present in this part of Bryce Canyon National Park.

Peaks and Ridges of thee West Elk Mountains (Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park)

This is a view looking to the east-northeast at the North Rim entrance to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. I wanted to create a sweeping view across this high desert landscape with the mountains far off in the distance. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 3 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Minute by Minute, Time Goes on, but Some Things Are Left to Endure (Cuyahoga Valley National Park)

A view looking to the east-northeast from the backside of Everett Covered Bridge. Because of the overcast skies, I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, capturing a more sweeping feel with the path to my front as it led to the bridge with the forest of trees all around. I worked with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted. I then added a Foliage and Darken/Lighten Center CEP filter to give that little bit extra for the final image.

I Can At Least Pretend It Was Autumn (Cuyahoga Valley National Park) by thor_mark 

I Can At Least Pretend It Was Autumn (Cuyahoga Valley National Park)

A stop in Cuyahoga Valley National Park while walking around the Everett Covered Bridge. Because of scheduling with time off from work, I wasn't able to visit this area when I imagined Autumn with its leaf colors would be on a full display. With some extra images I captured, I decided to use an Indian Summer CEP filter in Capture NX2 to make believe what might have been. While overcast that day, I was able to work with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
