This toucan inhabits forests and woodland. Both parents are active in raising the young. The white eggs are laid in a high unlined tree cavity and incubated for 15 to 16 days. New born chicks remain in the nest after hatching, leaving in 8 weeks.
An arobreal fruit-eater, but will take insects and other small pray, eg. insects small reptiles and eggs and nestlings of other birds.

Lives in the forest and grassland areas. They are semi-arboreal animals with a partially tail. A solitary animal, have small eyes and poor vision. Instead, they rely more on their sense of smell and hearing to capture their prey.
They mainly eat ants and termites in captivity, they will eat fruits and meat. They have no teeth and depend on their powerful gizzard to break down their food.
The tamabdua is mainly nocturnal but is occasionally active during the day.
