Lunch today at the new Irving burger joint called Chop Shop. Weirdly, they opened it just down the street from a long-standing Irving restaurant called the Original Chop Shop that's a health-conscious sandwich and salad place. Apparently the new guys didn't do much research before picking their name, so it's a bit confusing.
They're going for the sports bar look with lots of TVs showing random sports but they had the audio turned off so it was strangely quiet. It wasn't busy today so its existence may not be well known yet. We had cheeseburgers and tried the fries and onion rings. Burgers were ok but probably not worth another visit. The fries and rings were good. I might visit again just for the onion rings.

I got to go to a Burger Club meeting today! I found out there’s a group of people who go to RG Burgers in Denton once a month to eat their Burger of the Month. I’m not sure what a typical Burger of the Month entails, but the group seemed pretty overwhelmed by this thing. It consisted of two grilled cheese sandwiches on Texas Toast–which are used as the bun. Between those sandwiches was a large burger patty, more cheese, grilled onions, roasted peppers, bacon, and chipotle mayo. The thing was delicious, but I knew there was only one way I was gonna get through it. I had to eat quickly enough so that the burger was gone before my body registered that I was full. It worked! Feeling awful later was really the only immediate downside!
Tonight we went out for Chad’s birthday. First we met with Jon and Shalini at a new place called C’viche. It has an interesting vibe that I think will make more sense in warmer weather, but it was good! They had tasty quesadillas and cocktails I gulped down too quickly. We met with the rest of the crew at Blind Butcher, where most of tonight’s alcohol was consumed. I don’t know what sports game was being played tonight, but the place was PACKED and we had to spend most of our time there out back on the cold patio.
When the main party was over, several of us, including Chad and his Amanda, walked down the street to some weird dance club thing that smelled like old carpet. We weren’t there long before we realized the night needed to be over if we were going to survive our trips home. The night ended with Emily and I having pizza at Greenville Ave. Pizza Co. with Jon–Shalini bailed at the Blind Butcher stage for sleepy reasons. What a fun night! I think we both needed that.
