An image captured at the Teklanika Rest Overlook and Stop with a view looking across the braided river to ridgelines and distant peaks of the Alaska Range within Denali National Park & Preserve. By angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, I was able to create what I felt was a more sweeping view across this river valley to the distant peaks. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3.

A view to the northwest to a lone grizzly bear that was eating and ambling along a mountainside and ridgeline not far from the Stony Hill Scenic Overlook during a bus ride along the park road in Denali National Park & Preserve. This was an image captured while using a long reach Tamron 150-600 G2 lens. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3.

This was a view looking to the east across some kettle ponds with the sun rising off in the distance. During post-production, I made a decision to keep most of the landscape setting darker and in silhouette to add more of a focus to the rising sun and the light reflections of the waters.

A view across the tundra landscape in this part of Denali National Park, looking to the southwest and foothill mountains and peaks of the Alaska Range, with the hidden in clouds, snowcapped peaks of Denali rising above. While I could have worked some angles in composing this image, I decided to keep more of an even, leveled on view and have some "negative space" above the portion of Denali hidden in clouds. My feeling is that the centered up view had more of a balance. I could also clear up some of the clouds working with the ClearView Plus tool in DxO PhotoLab 3, The rest was I did some making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation for the image captured.

A view looking to the south while enjoying a bus ride from the North Face Lodge. What drew me into this image wasn't just the mostly hidden clouds view to Denali, it was the wide open space of this wilderness setting in the national park with the evergreen trees that stretched off into the distance and a braided river cutting across before then coming to tundra at the foothills of the Alaska Range. Obviously then comes the snowcapped peaks with Denali in the image center, but there was also the way the blue skies seemed to clear out above it all and that little bit of orange and red glow in the clouds from the sun rising to the east.

It was as I was doing post-processing on this image that I recalled a park ranger mentioning that Denali National Park was originally creating to preserve Dall sheep from overhunting.

A Vast Amphitheater Is Before Me,
Even as I stand amongst the tall mountains and peaks
I am humbled to stand in their presence
But I am so proud to see them with my very own eyes
So while some were hidden in a tapestry of morning clouds
Others displayed a seeming kaleidoscope of colors, layered upon layer
It was going to be another grand day in Denali National Park in Alaska!

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning looking to Denali while walking around during a bus ride break at the Eielson Visitor Center in Denali National Park & Preserve. This view is looking to the southwest to the partly hidden in clouds, snowcapped peak of Denali. This setting includes tundra and a glacial valley in this wilderness part of the national park. I angled my Nikon SLR camera in order to capture more of a sweeping view across this wilderness and tundra area and keep Denali in the uppermost part of the image. I felt that helped to give a sense of scale as well as bring out the grandeur of the “Great One” off in the distance. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.

Tundra that stretched across hills and ridgelines until coming up to the foothills of the Alaska Range with Denali towering above it all, even hidden amongst the clouds that morning. That pretty much sums up this view to the southwest while taking a bus ride from the North Face Lodge along the park road. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3. I later used the ClearView Plus tool to help clear up some of the view through the clouds present.
