I made this photo of a boy looking through a letter in an exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences in October 2019. The CAOS attracts people both local and from around the world. I shot this cute little boy using my Canon Powershot SX50.

I made this photo of a Golden Eagle perched high above Highway 95 in rural Southeast Oregon. This is a telephoto shot of the eagle that is on the high spot of the rock on the right quarter of the formation in the previous comparison image taken less than a minute before. I had traveled this route many times and was familiar with the rock formations along this stretch of two lane highway. I pulled off the highway to take some photos and this giant bird caught my eye even though it was at least a quarter mile away. Shot using the telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX30 that I was using in 2011. I have previously posted a photo of this eagle with its back turned to the camera.
This is a comparison photo of a rural landscape I made to complement the telephoto shot the Golden Eagle in the perched high above Highway 95 in rural Southeast Oregon in the following slide. You may be able to see the eagle on the high spot about 3/4 to the right in this image.
I had traveled this route many times and was familiar with the rock formations along this stretch of two lane highway. I pulled off the highway to take some photos of the hay field and the terrain and the giant bird caught my eye even though it was at least a quarter mile away. Back in those days, I was using a Canon Powershot SX30 as my carry around camera.
I made this photo of an American Avocet In the desert along Interstate 80 North of Reno Nevada in August of 2012 as Melody and I were taking our first Western States trip together. I had stopped at this body of water on previous trips and took this opportunity to do so again. This is a moderately cropped version of the image I took using a Canon Powershot SX30 that I was using at the time. I usually avoid including the entire reflection of a subject but figured it was appropriate in this case.
I made this photo of Water Lilies in the Aquatic Plants Room of the Conservatory of Flowers Victorian Greenhouse during a visit in April 2011. I found this image as I was transferring digital files from my old Windows 7 computer to a new Windows 10 desktop. I shot this using a Canon Powershot SX30 that I was using in those days.
I made this photo of a group of orchids in the Aquatic Plants Room of the Conservatory of Flowers Victorian Greenhouse during a visit in April 2011. I found this image as I was transferring digital files from my old Windows 7 computer to a new Windows 10 desktop. I shot this using a Canon Powershot SX30 that I was using in those days.
I made this photo of Lavender growing in front of a Vienna Street house as I was walking around the block of our Excelsior District home in San Francisco. Though much of San Francisco gardens are confined to the backyard, many oftentimes have small gardens in the front. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50.
I made this photo on February 28, 2020, the last day Melody attended her weekly Friday quilting class. On my way home, I drove through Golden Gate Park stopping at some of my favorite spots such as Queen Wilhelmina Garden and the Conservatory of Flowers. As I walked to the right after leaving the COF building, I saw this woman talking with another dog owner. When I decided to take a photo, I noticed the peace sign on the woman's shirt. After trying to capture a candid shot of the shirt, I walked up to her and told her I would like to take a photo of her t-shirt. It was a bit different than the peace signs of the 1960s. Before I made this photo, the t-shirt wearer took a few moments to explain that this modified peace sign shirt was her favorite and that she only hand washed it, hoping to have it last as long as possible. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50.
I made this photo of a woman sitting with her dog on a grassy area of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. This was one of the images I discovered wile transferring my thousands of files from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I shot this in April 2011 using a Canon Powershot SX30 that I carried with me at the time.
I made this photo of a Green Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly clinging to a artificial rock wall in the west room of the Conservatory of Flowers Victorian Greenhouse during its 2013 Butterflies and Blooms Special Exhibit. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50. This is the second of a series of three photos made during our park visit this day and the fourth in this series of five Golden Gate Park photos.
This close up photo of an orchids I made while visiting the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park is the first of a series of five taken over the period of a month using my Canon Powershot SX50. I am always intrigued how many orchids seem to hide little people inside their flowers.
I made this photo of a butterfly on a child's finger in the west room of the Conservatory of Flowers Victorian Greenhouse during its 2013 Butterflies and Blooms Special Exhibit. Touching butterflies was greatly discouraged in this live exhibit, but the urge is just too great - especially for kids. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX30. This is the last of a series of three photos made during our park visit this day and also the last in this series of five Golden Gate Park photos.
I made this close up of this red and white flowers as we were visiting the Dahlia Dell in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It is the third of a series of five photo taken in the park over the period of a month and the first of three photos during a July 20, 2013 visit. We were on our way to the Conservatory of Flowers and had stopped to see the dahlias first, normal for our visits to the COF. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX30. The Dahlia garden is fenced and, even though the flowers are relatively close, it helps to photograph the dahlias using a telephoto lens - a perfect job for Canon's SX series of point and shoots.
This is the second of a series of three photos I made in October 2011 of The Nurses Group in the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden in Siskiyou Country in Northern California not too far from the Oregon border. The 136 acre art installation and war memorial consists of The Hot LZ Memorial Wall, The Labyrinth, and 10 larger than life welded sculptures by artist Dennis Smith. This and the following photo shows Mounts Shasta and Shastina in the background. The two figures carrying the stretcher are male. That is because only females were recognized in the Nurse Corps of the military medical departments between 1901 and 1955. Nurses associations fought hard to have equally qualified male nurses commissioned to the rank of nurse rather than having to serve as orderlies and helpers. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX30 that I was using in 2011.

I made this photo of an emerging water lily surrounded by lily pads and other vegetation as I was visiting the Aquatic Plants Room of Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. This image captured using my Canon Powershot SX30 date back to July 2013. Melody and I enjoy visiting the Conservatory of Flowers now as much as we did then.
This photo of a Buckeye butterfly perched open winged on a flower inside the special exhibits room of the Conservatory of Flowers is the last of this series of three made during our July 2013 visit to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, finishing the photos from the Dahlia Dell to the outside and the inside of the COF. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX30 that I carried with me in 2013 whenever we were out and about.
