Waxing crescent moon 46 percent illuminated from San Francisco 20250404-230224

I saw this waxing crescent moon at 33% illumination last night as I was putting out our recycling and compost carts for Friday morning pickup. I made this photo of the waxing crescent moon at 46% illumination when I opened our garage door a half hour before midnight to check if it was visible. I was please to find it a little higher in the sky than 22 hours earlier. I shot this handheld using my Canon Powershot SX50 set at aperture preferred, spot focus, at infinity. It greatly helps that my camera has image stabilization.

Woman and her dog John McLaren Park San Francisco 20250110-161107

I made this photo of a woman and her dog on a boulder as Melody and I were making our way out of John McLaren Park as we were finishing our daily walk in late afternoon on January 10, 2025. I had almost taken this shot from a distance but waited until I was close to capture this image using the live view articulating monitor on my Canon Powershot SX50.

New fence next to deck railing on a steep hill – seen from Athens Avalon 99 tiled steps San Francisco HFF 20250309-155359

I made this photo of a new fence next to a deck at the back of a house during Melody's and my daily walk on March 9, 2025. I shot this while standing on one of the several landings on the 99 steps bordering the Athens Avalon Greenspace a few blocks from our San Francisco home. Melody seems to climb the steps with ease. I take a bit more time and count the steps in each section as I go up: the first set is 11 stairs, the second is 13 stairs and the rest of the sets of stairs are 15 each. I usually stop at the landing after walking up 69 stairs. That is where I captured this image while I was catching my breath and resting my legs. Guess the owners of this house did not want anyone falling down the hill. Happy Fence Friday.

Mural - grafitti seen as I exited the parking lot of a home improvement store in San Francisco 20241013-165736A

I made this photo of a mural on the side of a building across the street as I exited the parking lot of a home improvement store not too far from my San Francisco home. In fact, this mural was staring me in the face as I drove out. I had seen it several times before but stopped at the curb to snap this photo using my Canon Powershot SX50. I am not savvy to what the tags mean. The buildings are representative of the city's downtown skyline.

Red heart mosaic on the wall of a corner house in our San Francisco neighborhood 20250108-165525

I made this photo in late afternoon in early January 2025. This red heart mosaic is one of many mosaics that adorn the retaining walls of a corner house a couple blocks from our San Francisco home. Tom's business card describes himself as a regular guy. He talent and hard work demonstrate that he is more so much more than a Regular Guy. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50 set at spot focus and aperture preferred.

Fence recently painted between neighborhood residences near our San Francisco home HFF 20241020-173216

I made this photo of a newly painted fence and background house during Melody's and my daily walk on Oct 20, 2024. When I previously posted this fence on Flickr on September 13, 2024. The paint had nearly all flaked off and it looked shabby and sad. Looks pretty good now and makes for a Happy Fence Friday.

Mallard in resting position McNab Lake John McLaren Park San Francisco 20190130-124536V

Looking through my photo archives, I found this photo I made of a Mallard that in a pose that ducks use when they sleep. Obviously this guy was not sleeping, unless he was sleeping with one eye open. :o)
Shot using the full telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX50 since this mallard was on one of two small islands in the park lake.

Jamie, Delmy, and Boomer dog 20240720-081308

I made this photo of Jamie, Delmy holding her dog Boomer early on a Saturday morning as we took a pause from talking in front of their Sacramento homes. The three are neighbors in the Parkway District of Sacramento, the California State Capital. Jamie and his brother followed in their father's footsteps and run the family business Dynasty Video Productions. The company does everything from filming in boardrooms to out the doors of flying helicopters. Jamie is short for Jameson and Delmy is short for Elena's middle name of Delfina. This is the second pose they did for me, after repositioning from having the sun behind them.

Bees on mint flowers – Sacramento CA backyard 20240720-084435

I made this photo of Bees on mint flowers while strolling the backyard of a friend who lives in Sacramento, the capital of California. The large mint plant attracted lots of bees, some so tiny they were barely visible. I shot this a few feet away using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Cat eyes close up - crop of wider image 20240626-172335B

This photo of a cat's eyes is a crop of a larger image taken during Melody's and my daily walk in later June 2024. This feline looked apprehensive, even though I was about 20 feet away. Shot at nearly half the telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX50.

Watermelons in shopping cart Downtown San Francisco warehouse store 20240628-163741

Yes, summer is here and it is watermelon time. I made this photo of a shopping cart full of watermelons during Melody's and my weekly grocery shopping trip, of which Costco warehouse store is often on our route. Somebody must have been planning a weekend party or, maybe, purchasing these watermelons in advance of July 4 celebrations.

Yellow and red alstroemeria flowers growing in our backyard 20240624-195217

I planted this alstroemeria plant with yellow and red flowers in the backyard of our San Francisco home a year or two ago next to another alstroemeria with white flowers that you can see in the following slide. I shot this using one of my custom modes on my Canon Powershot SX50 that I have preset to macro and spot focus.

White alstroemeria flowers growing in our backyard 20240624-195058

I planted this alstroemeria plant with white flowers in the backyard of our San Francisco home a year or two ago next to another alstroemeria with yellow flowers. They were beautiful additions to our small urban garden and we plan to add more.

Black house Excelsior Ave San Francisco 20240117-160125

I made this photo of a large black house, located several blocks from our San Francisco home, during Melody's and my daily walks in mid January 2024. Several homes throughout the area have been painted black in the last few years. I really do not understand why, especially in this era of global warming. As usual, I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50 that I carry with me whenever out and about.

Inside a tulip shot in our kitchen 20240409-133927

I made this macro shot of the inside of a tulip while photographing flowers that Melody had arranged in a vase she keeps on her sewing table in the kitchen of our San Francisco home. Just goes to show you do not have to go far to capture images of beauty. Shot using macro and spot focus on my Canon Powershot SX50.

Peeling Paint Fence on the side of a house San Francisco HFF 20240620-132046

I made this photo of a distressed fence as I was walking to another property behind the house shown at the top left. You can see this fence really needs a paint job. Shot on the spur of the moment using my Canon Powershot SX50 that I carry with me whenever out and about. HFF

White flowers against blue water Upper Reservoir John McLaren Park San Francisco 20230616-164006

I made this wide angle photo of the Upper Reservoir in John McLaren Park after taking a close up of the white flowers in the foreground, revealing the location of the first image of isolated white flowers against a blue background. Melody and I visit this location often during our daily walks around our San Francisco neighborhood. I took this in mid June 2023 using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Improv Scrappy Quilt back with label in corner 20240130-123331

I made this photo of the back of the Improv Scrappy Quilt Melody made for the daughter of a senior friend of ours. We have posted photos of the quilt on Flickr before. Melody likes to make quilts that include colors or styles that the recipient likes. In this case black and white. The colorful quilt front had already been pieced, so Melody purchased black and white flannel for the back.

Old sewing machines in electronics recycling box Recology San Francisco 20240408-141715

I made this photo after dropping Melody's old Brother sewing machines at our local garbage company. Melody replaced this machines with two new Baby Lock machines, a Soprano and a Brilliant. San Francisco has very efficient garbage companies, Sunset Scavenger and Golden Gate Disposal, that go under the umbrella name of Recology. I go there once in a while to drop off electronics, batteries, Styrofoam, or hazardous waste such as paint, etc.

Fence on top of of garages San Francisco 20230513-134758

During Melody's and my daily walks, we are on the lookout for fences that we might post on Fence Fridays. I made this photo of what looks like a backyard fence that is on top of garages. Seems the original weathered fence has been reinforced from the back – visible from the street. Wonder what the Backyard of the house on the right of this image looks like. HFF.
