A colorful evening (II)

I moved further to where Dieter and Daan were standing. We didn’t have to wait long before some more colorful trains passed us: Rurtalbahn with its Lok-Spitze Vectron, BLS Cargo with one of their Alpinist Vectrons, and the expected purple HSL 186 383. This was much more than what I had expected!

And the party wasn’t over yet! Lineas’ “No Time To Waste” loco was also underway with a train to Germany. Time was limited to get to the next spot. It was all the more stressful because I had never been there and still had to find the way. Thanks to the good intel from Eurorailer and Bram finding the way was easy. I did have to run again with all my gear, but the panic shot of 186 454 turned out fine. Was this the end? Not really: I got to see 4 more trains before the sun finally sank under the horizon. The traction of these trains was, well, colorful again. A “das ist grün” Vectron from DB, an Alpha Traxx with Medway logo, and the Rainbow Traxx from Lineas. Not mentioning the bland Railpool Traxx with a very cool Ambrogio train.

A colorful evening (I)

The past few days have been very sunny and warm. Apart from working in the garden, this is also good weather for spending some time along the tracks. Tuesday evening after work I rushed to Hoeselt. I didn’t expect much, but I found out that HSL Belgium’s 186 383 was scheduled for a train to Antwerp. After parking the car though, I saw that a train was already on its way! I had barely enough time to run to the spot, carrying all my gear, and set up. As it turned out, Mattias drove the first train that I would see that evening. The red Vectron, fluo Traxx and interesting yellow first car made it a very nice train to look at in the evening light.

On the double-track Martin – Horná Štubňa, the 475-196 coming from Vrútky with a rack of authentic vintage passenger cars is running at full speed, offering us our first picture of the day. It is passing without stop the Rakovo Príbovce station, where an old telegraphic pole is still standing up.

It is not anticipated that this locomotive will be returned to service having not run since the railway closed in 1946. This is to conserve its original appearance. Sister locos PRINCE, PALMERSTON and WELSH PONY are in service.

Doing a roof: up there (1/3) by jaeschol

Doing a roof: up there (1/3)

We did in October 2020 the roof of our Ae 3/6 I.
Doing the roof meant the following: removing old paint, priming the roof, painting it in silver.
Prime and paint the wooden side walks for the personal.
When working up there without these side walks, you had always to be sure to hold on something stable.

You might also notice that this track has no overhead wire installed, so at least no danger at all from above or the power in the wire.

Doing a roof: with side walk (2/3)

Here the fresh pantographs are visible.
The roof itself already got dirty again due to the removal of paint somewhere else on the locomotive.

You see on the right hand side that the side walk has been fix already. It is still missing on the left hand side.

SNCB 1607 | Aachen

Multi-system locomotive 1607 has reached the Aachen border station with its express train from Cologne to Ostend, entering
track 6.

Stopping and disarming the locomotive: these are now the tasks of the DB driver, who hands the train over to his Belgian colleague in Aachen. Using a key released after disarming the locomotive, the Belgian driver can now request the overhead line switch from the dispatcher via a key switch on the platform. The key remains locked during the switchover. As soon as the overhead line is supplied with 3000V DC, a light on the key switch illuminates, and the key can be removed and returned to the appropriate location in the locomotive. Only now can the locomotive be rearmed. The process sounds complex, but it only takes a short time. The onward journey can begin.

At Aachen Central Station, tracks 6-9 are designated for this process. Trains can enter and exit from these tracks from/to Belgium.
