* On the west coast of Vancouver Island, the great Pacific Ocean rolls in from across the globe. On this night it was as peaceful as its name suggests. But it is renowned here for its particular fury in storm season.

* Sur la côte ouest de l'île de Vancouver, le grand océan Pacifique arrive du monde entier. Cette nuit-là, il était aussi paisible que son nom l'indique. Mais il est réputé ici pour sa fureur particulière en saison des tempêtes.

Migrating shorebirds usually arrive to our shores on Vancouver Island in March but there were many still at Chesterman Beach including a large number of Western Sandpipers.

Migratory shorebirds were still in evidence at Chesterman Beach. Among large numbers of Sandpipers was an occasional little Plover doing its run-and-stop foraging where waves ebbed and flowed.

In addition to crashing waves and long, sandy beaches, there is a chance of a beautiful sunset from the west side of Vancouver Island. In this one, the long-lens picked up other (viewed large) people taking advantage of the low tide sandbar on Chesterman Beach to await the day's-end event.

From our visit last spring. Foggy mornings like this are quite typical in the Tofino area.

This species of anemone is known to have purple tipped tentacles. These anemones (one of several species) form colonies in intertidal pools on the west coast. This was one of many we saw in a tide pool on our last trip to Tofino.
