While walking along a main shopping area in Jasper, Alberta, with a view looking to the north. My thought on composing this image was to zoom in with the focal length to include only a portion of this sidewalk area and storefronts, focusing on some people walking by. I liked the mountain backdrop, even though there was a slight haze that afternoon. I felt the mountains helped to complete the setting for the image.
A setting looking to the northwest while taking in views of the Maligne River as it flowed by from a roadside pullout along the main road in this part of Jasper National Park. With this image, I attempted to center the river flowing by this forest of evergreen trees, with a backdrop of ridges and peaks of the Medicine Lake Slabs.
A setting looking to the east-southeast while at a roadside pullout along the Maligne Lake Road in Jasper National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was to include the road as it led into the mountains with the nearby forest around. I then zoomed in with the focal length and aligned myself to have this setting fill most of the image, while still having a little bit of blue skies above.
While on the H.J. Moberly Bridge with a view looking to the north-northeast. This location is in Jasper National Park. With this image, I decided to zoom in with the focal length and capture a layered look as the river flowed by. I used one of the shorelines to frame the setting but also have a look beyond with the ridges and peaks of the Colin Range with Mount Colin and Hawk Mountain.
I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
While on the H.J. Moberly Bridge with a view looking to the north-northeast. This location is in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image came about as I watched cars go by across the bridge to my front. I noticed the trusses on the bridge and decided to use that as a frame for look beyond with the Athabasca River and mountains. The rest was just aligning myself for a view with the mountains and including interesting patterns in the trusses.
A setting looking to the northwest while taking in views at the Maligne River floated downstream. This is at the Sixth Bridge in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image was to align myself with the river, so that I was using it as a leading line, more or less centered in the image. All around would be the forested landscape in this part of the national park with a backdrop of more distant mountains and blue skies with clouds.
While at the Sixth Bridge in Maligne Canyon with a view looking to the southeast in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image was to include the person fishing in the Maligne River flowing by, but also pull back on the focal length so that I could include the entire setting with the forest of evergreen trees and ridges and peaks of Mount Tekarra.
While at a roadside pullout area along Maligne Lake Road with a view looking to the east-southeast. This is in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image was to capture a view from a high point I was on along the road, looking down and then across this valley between the mountains. I decided to more or less center that valley and have the nearby forest as a foreground interest. But what really drew me into the setting were the Medicine Lake Slabs off in the distance. I worked to get an angle to bring them higher into the image, while still including some of the blue skies and clouds above.
I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 6. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 where I added a Foliage, Polarization and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.
While walking around the Sixth Bridge area of Maligne Canyon in Jasper National Park with a view looking downstream and to the northwest. My thought on composing this image was to use the river as a leading line, having both sides of the riverbanks act to channel the viewer into the image. I wanted a leveled-on view looking off into the distance. Another reason for that leveled-on view was the sun’s position of the skies, and how it was starting to create artifacts across the lens. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
A setting looking to the north-northeast while taking in views as the Athabasca River flowed by in this part of Jasper National Park. I thought on composing the same image was two things. One was to use the river as a leading line into the image. The second was to have a leveled-on view and balance the river flowing by with the wisps of clouds in the blue skies above.
While at an parking lot overlook at Medicine Lake and a view looking to the north and up the mountainside of Medicine Lake Slabs. This is in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image was to angle my Nikon SLR camera such that I was able to fill this mountainside from edge to edge, but still including some blue skies above. I felt that that helped to complement the setting, especially with the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.
A setting looking to the northwest while taking in views of the Maligne River flowing by a nearby forest. This is in Jasper National Park at a roadside parking area along the Maligne Lake Road. What I loved about this setting was the backdrop of the Medicine Lake Slabs off in the distance with this river and forest setting. In composing this image, I zoomed in a little with the focal length and then aligned myself such that the river, as a leading line, would be more or less centered in the image. I had to watch the metering, as there were definitely highlights that could be blown from the mid-afternoon sunshine present. But I also wanted to be able to bring out the more shadowed areas in the nearby forest later on in post production. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
