Tiny rainforest-dwelling parrot. Male has red cheeks. Primarily green with varying levels of red and blue on the face depending on the subspecies. Typically flies quickly overhead or feeds inconspicuously in rainforest canopies. From Little Lorikeet by pale underwings (Little Lorikeet has dark wings), and yellow line near the folded wing (lacking on Little Lorikeet). Its call, usually heard in flight, is a distinctive metallic ‘tzeet-tzeet’. Excavates hollows in softwood rainforest trees. (eBird)

Not only are they tiny, but aparently they prefer to hide in the shadow. This is the best I could do with a very noisy and dark photo, but some record shots just have to be shared :-)

Double-eyed Fig Parrot. Cyclopsitta diophthalma Macleayana.
The Double-eyed Fig Parrot is Australia's smallest parrot.
Their eggs are laid in holes in dead, sometimes perilously shaky, trees. Both sexes have a red forehead, but the males also have a red cheek patch, as opposed to the females' which is usually yellow.

I can not begin to describe how excited this encounter was for me. There where nine birds in total in the one fig tree Pairs and young.
Sixty five photos later.

Seen ideally three or four times each year around the weeping native fig trees which set fruit and attract these parrots.
