First light reveals a busy Interstate 80, with road and rail charting a course through the Humboldt River Valley. It's 0530 in the morning, and we're just east of Winnemucca, in the State of Nevada.

The former waiting hall has for the most part been given over to retail, bar and dining options, but passengers for the daily Amtrak California Zephyr are still accommodated in one corner. The upper levels are now part of the luxury Crawford Hotel.

RTD Siemens SD-160 unit #253 reaches the end of its journey at Denver Union Station on an E Line service. Extended by a further 2.7 miles in 2019, the E Line runs some 20 miles to the south of Denver, terminating in RidgeGate Parkway.

The Lincoln Park neighborhood of Denver boasts newer residential units and some old-school hangouts like Buckhorn Exchange, a popular steakhouse. Dating from 1893, it is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Denver!

The eye-catching One River North, a mixed-use development in Denver's River North Art District or RiNo features a "canyon" carved into the side of the building. Inspired by natural erosion and designed to evoke a slot canyon, the feature includes over 13,000 sq feet of landscaped terraces that appear to hang in open space, offering sweeping views of the city. Completed in 2024, the building was designed by MAD Architects.

"Big Sweep", a 2006 work by husband and wife artist team, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, graces the exterior of the Denver Art Museum's Hamilton Building. "A graceful broom and dustpan that seem to dance in the dazzling Western sun" reads the description for the 40-foot tall sculpture. For comparison, note the relative size of the chairs alongside.

The incredibly striking open air train hall at Denver Union Station. The historic station building (visible center left) underwent a massive restoration, and a new train hall - as pictured above - was built to replace an existing rail yard, all in time for the station's centenary celebration in 2014. Renowned architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) was responsible for the revolutionary design.

Denver's iconic Big Blue Bear sculpture appears to be peering into the city's Convention Center. Located in Downtown Denver, the 40-foot tall installation is the work of artist, Lawrence Argent.

After a sustained period of decline in the 1900s, the late 19th-century Victorian buildings along Larimer Street were lovingly restored beginning in 1965. Today the street is pedestrian-only and houses independent stores, cafes and restaurants.

Looking southeast along 16th Street in Downtown Denver, a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare commonly referred to as the 16th Street Mall. The street has undergone a huge overhaul recently but the concept and design dates back to 1982, and is credited to renowned Chinese-American architect, I.M.Pei. Fittingly, the city's most notable landmark, the Daniels & Fisher Tower, lies along it.

An RTD (Regional Transportation District) commuter train at Denver Union Station. RTD operates 4 commuter routes out of Union Station, utilizing a fleet of Hyundai Rotem-built Silverliner V Electric Multiple Units or EMU's.

Also located along Wynkoop Street is the Denver Chop House and Brewery, a popular steakhouse in LoDo (Lower Downtown), as the neighborhood is referred to. Built in 1922, and still bearing its former owner's markings, the building served as a signal master's head house, playing a crucial role in managing railroad signals.
