The eye-catching One River North, a mixed-use development in Denver's River North Art District or RiNo features a "canyon" carved into the side of the building. Inspired by natural erosion and designed to evoke a slot canyon, the feature includes over 13,000 sq feet of landscaped terraces that appear to hang in open space, offering sweeping views of the city. Completed in 2024, the building was designed by MAD Architects.
"Big Sweep", a 2006 work by husband and wife artist team, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, graces the exterior of the Denver Art Museum's Hamilton Building. "A graceful broom and dustpan that seem to dance in the dazzling Western sun" reads the description for the 40-foot tall sculpture. For comparison, note the relative size of the chairs alongside.
The incredibly striking open air train hall at Denver Union Station. The historic station building (visible center left) underwent a massive restoration, and a new train hall - as pictured above - was built to replace an existing rail yard, all in time for the station's centenary celebration in 2014. Renowned architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) was responsible for the revolutionary design.
Looking southeast along 16th Street in Downtown Denver, a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare commonly referred to as the 16th Street Mall. The street has undergone a huge overhaul recently but the concept and design dates back to 1982, and is credited to renowned Chinese-American architect, I.M.Pei. Fittingly, the city's most notable landmark, the Daniels & Fisher Tower, lies along it.
Also located along Wynkoop Street is the Denver Chop House and Brewery, a popular steakhouse in LoDo (Lower Downtown), as the neighborhood is referred to. Built in 1922, and still bearing its former owner's markings, the building served as a signal master's head house, playing a crucial role in managing railroad signals.
