While walking around and exploring the Bisti Badlands with a view looking to the south to some eroded formations present in this part of Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area.

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across eroded formations and buttes in this northern Arizona high desert landscape. This is at the Monument Valley Tribal Park Visitor Center with a view looking to West Mitten and East Mitten, from image left to right. My thought on composing this image was to symmetrically center the two formations and have a leveled-on view with the horizon, balancing the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image with the blues in the skies above.
A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across eroded and adobe formations present in this part of the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area. My thought on composing this image was to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward and bring out a sweeping view across this landscape. I felt there were layers present with the nearby flatness to my front and bluffs off in the distance. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 7 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
While at the Red Rock Canyon Overlook with a view looking to the northwest to the sandstone peaks and mountains present in this conservation area. While I did want a wider angle, panoramic feel with the image captured, I had to watch the angle I was looking because of light artifacts across the lens. And there was quite a bit of glare present that afternoon.
I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image. I found the ClearView Plus tool also helped to address some of the glare.
While at a roadside pullout along Artists Dr in Death Valley National Park with a view looking to the west-southwest to a nearby hillside and then more distant ridges and peaks of the Panamint Range. My thought on composing this image was to capture a layered look that came about from the contrast of colors on the nearby and then more distant ridges. Nearby was the darker colored hillside and ridge, while the mountains off in the distance had more of a bluer hue, along the snowcapped peaks. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
While walking along the hardpacked walkway at Badwater Basin with a view looking to the east. This location is in Death Valley National Park. My thought on composing this image was a few things. One was to capture the people enjoying part of a day in a national park with that #FindYourPark feeling. Another was the capture of the mountainside looking up to Dantes View where I had been earlier that morning. The last would require some pixel peeping on the mountainside, a little ways but almost center with the sea level sign.
While walking out on the path at Badwater Basin and a look across those salt flats with a mountain backdrop of the Panamint Range. This view is looking to the west-southwest in Death Valley National Park. My thought on composing this image was to capture what might be an emptiness or minimalist type setting with the location below sea level. Or at least I felt it had a minimalist look in the foreground. But when contrasted with the snowcapped mountains off in the distance, it brought out a striking difference.
A setting looking to the south while taking in views and walking around the ruins present in the Pueblo Bonito area of Chaco Culture National Historical Park. My thought on composing this image was to align myself, so that I could capture a view that brought out most of the shapes and formations in patterns in the ruins, while using the skies and clouds above as a backdrop and color contrast to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.
While walking along the salt flats at Badwater Basin and a setting to the southwest. This location is in Death Valley National Park. With this image, I got down low and attempted to capture an image looking across the dried up salts, having it stretch across from image edge to edge. That was the idea behind a web article I’d read on the impact of less with images.
At a roadside pullout along Artists Drive with a view looking down the asphalt road as it goes down and then up before making a turn. My thought on composing this image was to capture that look of the road ahead before a turn followed along more of the nearby mountainside. The last part after doing some post-production work in DxO PhotoLab 6 was to crop a portion of the foreground and bring out more of a wider angle, panoramic look to the setting.
