After 62 years my local Beer Store is closing its doors for the last time, along with 23 other locations on March 1st...and this is just the beginning.
The Ontario Government had allowed corner shops, variety and convenience stores to sell beer and wine as of September of 2024.
Problem is my neighbourhood is older and well established, the aforementioned shops are too small to stock beer and wine. I'll need to travel outside of my postal code to get beer and even then the stores that do carry my favorite beverage sell nothing larger than a plastic wrapped six packs.
Will I be environmentally conscious enough to travel 3 kilometres using two bus routes to get to a Beer Store, provided they're not closing, to return my empties ? Time will tell.
My sincere thanks to Ontario Premier Thug Ford for this change...works in the suburbs or if you drive, but not in the inner city or if you use the transit system.
