Travertine
Roman Late Republican period, early 1st c. BCE
Found at Ostia (see on Pleiades), sacred area of Via della Foce, Temple of Hercules
The relief represents, on the right, the discovery of a statue of a statue of Hercules in fishing nets. At center, the god is represented handing over a tablet labeled "[s]ort(es) H(erculi)" (oracular responses of Hercules) to an attendant. To the left, a priest, probably the haruspex C. Fulvius Salvis named in the dedicatory inscription, hands the tablet to another person, now lost, accompanied by a figure of a winged Victory.
