The East Anglian air ambulance hovers above Greenacres Farm. It was called to attend a 500cc sidecar crew, driver Chris Hay and passenger Karl Hocaniuk, who had been injured in a frightening spill during a qualifying heat of the Woodwalton, Cambridgeshire, staging of Fenland Grasstrack Club's 2023 'Fenland Flyer' meeting.
In the event, Hay, from Cowling, and Hocaniuk, based at Riddlesden, Keighley, were taken to Peterborough hospital by two county ambulances. The incident and its aftermath caused a 90-minute delay and resulted in a shortening of the race schedule.
Owing to Covid, and the death of a landowner, it was Fenland Grasstrack Club's first meeting in four years. Shortly before the end, organisers announced it had been such a success, the club would run the 'Fenland Flyer' again in 2024.
