Vintage French postcard. le Mans, Place de la République, mailed 1925. Imp. Photo. A. Dolbeau, Le Mans. 118. The cinema opened in 1908 and closed in 1979. Afterward it was a discotheque/ concert hall called Empire and now it is a restaurant.
Vintage French postcard. Angers, Grand Cinéma, Le Grand Théâtre A.B., 61, Collection A. Bruel, Angers, card mailed in 1916. The theatre opened in 1871 as a regular theatre. In the early 1900s the Grand Théâtre was converted into a cinema, called Grand Cinéma. Today it is a live theatre.
Vintage French postcard. Mourmelon le Grand, Tivoli Cinema. Probably early 1930s. Tivoli opened in 1932 and lasted into the 1950s. It is demolished now. NB the car in the front is a 1910s type, the one behind it a 1920s model.

Vintage French postcard. Cinématographe, temporary cinema at the Exposition Coloniale, Afrique Occidentale, Marseille (1906), 25. Phototypie E. Lacour, Marseille. The 1906 colonial exhibition in Marseille was the first one held there. In 1922 a second one would be held there as well.
Vintage French postcard. Marseille, Rue de la République. I.P. Before 1918. In the early years of cinema, film was also shown in department stores like here at La Samaritaine.
I met these two girls in Paris. They had these beautiful dresses on, and they had brought a reflector to take photos with the sun behind them, though the main camera was an iPhone. I was impressed by their dedication to bringing a reflector to take better photos. They could not understand any English, and I could not understand their language, but somehow I was able to convince them to let me take a picture of them.
