The light was perfect when she decided to pose outside my window. She is almost done with her summer molt.

Often anoles will eat their shed skin. When we found this one, it looked like she had shed from the head downwards and the entire skin was hanging by one leg.

Papa was trying his best to feed a bug to one of his fledglings above him. They both seemed to be in a food coma & just wanted to go to sleep. Neither was interested in what dad was offering. I felt sorry for him.

They seem to like my feeders. I think they are a mated pair. But I have not seen any fledglings or juveniles. Happy to have them.

Love my juvenile cardinals as they are getting their adult feathers. They are pretty calm too. Unlike the juvenile blue jays who act like they are hyped up on too much coffee.

These ants have 3 sizes of workers. I found it interesting to see a soldier worker and a small worker teaming up to get part of a skipper butterfly back to the colony. It looked like the soldier ant was carrying the weight while the smaller worker was steering them.

This one surprised me, I thought they usually had their funnels on the ground. She was at eye level. She curled up a leaf to make her funnel inside.

On June 24, a monarch laid tons of eggs in my milkweed. On June 28 I found tons of hatchlings under milkweed leafs. On July 4th, I took a video of caterpillars eating everything in sight. Starting on July 5th, there were less caterpillars each day as they went on walkabout to make their chrysalis. I found my first one on July 7. I was only able to locate 4 chrysalis but I figured there were many more, they are quite clever at hiding. Today, July 15, I woke up to a yard full of monarchs. They kept climbing up out of vegetation all over. I had really looked hard and still missed most of their hiding places. I estimate I ended up having between 20 and 25 come out this morning. I know of one still green chrysalis waiting for another day. Once wings were dry, each butterfly headed high up to my crepe myrtle trees that are in bloom. This is a quick cell phone video I took when the emergence started.

I was just focusing on the dragonfly. Did not know that the lighting and background was going to turn out like a Monet painting. So much beauty in nature.

I swear this guy has been eating fireflies, he was positively glowing. They are fairly easy to photograph, just stand by their favorite perch & wait for them to come back.

On June 24, 2025, a monarch spent all morning laying eggs in my milkweed. 4 days later on June 28, they hatched in the warm temperatures. I didn't think many would survive the predatory wasps and assassin bugs. This afternoon I took a quick video of the ones visible without looking under leaves. They are 7 days old. I estimate I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or so, maybe more. They are eating everything in sight. Which is ok, it is why I have the milkweed. And a chemical free yard.

Flowers bring me joy. Sunflowers attract a lot of bees and butterflies, had to wait for a chance to get a photo of the flower only.
