The Chicago & Northwestern adopted its famous "Ball and Bar" logo in 1891, and while the text would be modified a few times, the logo's shape stuck around until the end of the CNW over 100 years later in 1995.
The "Employee Owned" version of the logo was in use from 1971 to 1982, fitting for this gondola that was built in February 1980. This is one of 150 of this type built for the CNW in 1980: a 65 ft long, 3242 cu ft mill gondola built by Greenville Steel Car.

Built May 1980 by Conrail itself, this G52C mill gondola has run a lot of miles in service hauling around bulk metals and aggregates. Now owned by Norfolk Southern, the gon still wears its CR reporting mark as it rolls through Houston on a UP manifest train.
