Gelbhaubenkakadus (Cacatua galerita) kommen im nördlichen, östlichen und Südosten Australiens und Tasmanien sowie den Palau-Inseln, auf einigen Inseln der südlichen Molukken sowie in Indonesien vor. Die Art wurde außerdem im Südwesten Australiens und Neuseeland eingebürgert.Ihr Verbreitungsschwerpunkt liegt im Südosten Australiens. Dort sind Gelbhaubenkakadus sehr zahlreich und auch in Städten wie Sydney und Canberra sehr häufig anzutreffen.
