Out testing my latest diffusor,in the local neighbourhood was a bit difficult as the somewhat grim weather lately has had the bug spotting cool off a bit. But I found a couple of these minute great green bush-cricket nymphs (Tettigonia viridissima) hanging out on some dandelions in the ditches. Now they scare off pretty easily and are very small (this is at 2.7:1 magnification), but I got shots of a couple of them at least.

Trying to look invisible in the center of a dandelion is this nymph of a great green bush-cricket (Tettigonia viridissima). Moments after this, those long legs (covered in some seriously spiky hairs!) catapulted it out of frame, but I got this one at least.

If it manages to reach adulthood, it will look something like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/50618225382/

Green, greener - this lady, right?

While out on Havtornsudd Point on the Gålö peninsula in Stockholm's southern inner archipleago on a windy day I happened on a alarmingly lage growth of the highly invasive japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica). This isn't good at all for the nature reserve, but looking extremely short term, the plants offered shelter from the wind and I found several nice species in all the green. Among those was this and one or two more great green bush crickets (Tettigonia viridissima).

This one is a female and for a portrait shot with a truly intense stare, have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52596621758/

How's that for eye-contact? I cornered this female great green bush-cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) on a leaf and got some cool shots before she doubled back and jumped to a different leaf.

Do zoom in on the eyes for some nice detail not showing in the full shot.

Green Face, Pt. 3 - _TNY_0795

This large fellow is a great green bush-cricket (Tettigonia viridissima), a species which really gets quite large, up to 35 mm.

People often report them as being significantly larger because the wings and ovipositor of the female protrude far behind it, leading them to believe it is part of the body.

This particular one was at the top of a thistle near the forest obstacle course at the Siggesta Gård conference center.
