To do this, he had the help of Cerberus, a dog known for having three heads.

2000 year old Roman Mosaic depicting Bacchus, the God of Wine, spots Ariadne of Crete
The nymph Arethusa (a follower of Artemis) is trying to escape the amorous advances of the river Alpheus (son of Ocean and Thetis), yet the story's outcome will see a happy ending. The mosaicist, however, is worried that the spectators will not recognize the protagonists and so includes their two names. Both onlookers and owners must know the story to appreciate the scene's significance.

Painted in the 1480s. Scholars are unsure when and for whom this work by Renaissance artist Botticelli (c.1445-1510) was painted. Most agree, however, that it was painted in Florence in the 1480s, and that it was likely a gift to commemorate a wedding. The mythological lovers Venus and Mars lay languidly next to each other, while little satyrs play around with armor Mars wears as the god as war. One of them is about to blow into a seashell next to his ear, indicating that this is the very last moment before he wakes up. Venus looks on, awaiting for Mars to awake.
