The landscape was desolate and majestic. My trip to Guadalupe Mountain was inspired by reading Edmund Burke's Enquiry to Sublime and Beauty, and this view was only sublime.

Hunter Peak (8,369 ft, 2551m) is the high point of a brutal loop up Bear Canyon across a ridge and then down the Tejas Trail. I have hiked up the Tejas Trail twice but have not yet hiked Bear Canyon - which is supposedly significantly more brutal.
The alto plano provides some sheltered and somewhat moister habitats than the rest of the Chihuahuan Desert.
