One of the biggest challenges of shooting portraits is to get your subjects to show real emotions. In this scene the emotions are clearly written on the faces of these two Hmong teenagers in Ha Giang - pain and anguish on his part, and a gentle but uneasy love and tenderness on her part. The scene speaks of a lover's quarrel and the boy feeling rejected and bitter while the girl is trying to comfort and soothe his raw feelings.
