Took this self portrait photograph in my studio on January 29, 2025. Thinking it was time to update my profile photo. Most likely going to take more, mostly just having some fun in the studio.

This cairn was a welcome sight on the hike down to Burden Falls in the Shawnee National Forest. A few of these mark the point where the trail crosses the stream. I have a whole philosophy of life built around cairns. The cairn is a concrete image – a touchstone – that I can hold in my mind as a point of meditation or as a simple reminder of how I want to live my life. The cairn has become a personal symbol in my quest to live a well- balanced life. Download my ebook for free at tinyurl.com/Cairns-Philosophy
Vollenda arrived at her desired shooting location an hour early to set up and scout the area for potential shots. She checked the angle the fireworks would be seen from with a satellite map view on her phone so she had a good idea where she should shoot from, but the Camera was prepared to quickly relocate if her calculations were incorrect. If a photographer truly wants to capture a great shot, excessive preplanning like this is always required.
Vollenda's experience with fireworks proved accurate, as she chose the perfect spot to capture the town with the fireworks above. During the show, she quickly moved around the train station to take photographs with slightly different foreground views. The Camera continuously shot long exposure after long exposure, hoping to capture at least one perfect image. And, she did! ;-) Vollenda actually got several great photographs tonight.
