Sorry, another five photos of old cars, taken on 29 September 2024! I'm trying to get them posted and out of the way, and then I can return to a few birds and other things.
I have used car names that Google Lens identified. No guarantee that all these are accurate.
Driving for men's health:
"The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for men's health. Specifically, we and Movember are working together to combat prostate cancer and mental health impacting men all around the world. The funds we raise build vital programs and fund life-saving research, as we encourage those close to us to take care of themselves, the same way we care for our cars."
On 29 September 2024, it was a different kind of day, spent with my daughter who had a free day. Our main destination was out SW of the city, hoping to see a number of old cars that were firstly travelling and then parked for a while at a certain location.
Growing up in Birmingham, England, till I was 22, (but then leaving to live overseas in a few countries), I spent time around old things, mainly old steam trains, steam rollers, steam tractors, etc.. My father was a passionate photographer from the day I was born. He took so many photos of me (and my brother), but also of the old trains and so on. After he died in 1976 at the age of 69, and then my mother in 1998 and my brother a few years after that, amazing, long-time friends in England went through all my parents and brother's belongings and shipped a lot of special things to me here in Canada. Amongst them were my father's old cameras and even a few of mine starting from when I was around 11 years old, if not earlier. Several old photo albums and many loose photos and slides were also so gratefully received by me. Lots of photos of the old steam trains, steam tractors, and other things. A huge number of photos were donated (by my friends) to various Museums, Midlands Archive place, etc..
So, I have grown up with a real interest in old things. The chance to see and photograph a group of beautiful classic cars could not be missed. I had wanted to do this for a few years but was never sure if I would find a parking spot, or if I would ever find my car again, ha. The larger old car shows seem to be huge, with far too many people for my liking. This recent special event was much smaller and so relaxed and enjoyable.
Before the cars started their drive, we had time to stop at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park. It has been several years since I used to go there, searching for and photographing mushrooms and other fungi. Physically out of commission for so much of the past four years, I wondered if I could manage even a short walk. Amazingly, I managed OK for the first, tiny loop and part of the second loop, by which time we needed to leave to make sure that we didn't miss the start of the 'parade' of old cars. Not much fungi-wise, mainly Red-belted Polypores. I guess we were too late in the season. However, I was happy to see one single Saddle mushroom, one very tiny mushroom, and one Polypore that had guttation droplets (water droplets).
The weather started off pleasant and sunny, but we knew that the forecast was for rain. Sure enough, just as we were starting to head for home, down came the heavy rain. Just so lucky that it held off as long as it did, though we had very grey skies for many of our photos.
