Entering service on 20-10-1967, 4497 is the last of the Alco DL500 series locos still in revenue service in Australia and almost at 55 years in service, apart from a few years here and there in the last 20 years.
On 3-10-22, 4497 leads 1431 departing Junee and heading for Harefield just down the line with a Qube shuttle
The last of the Alco 44/930 class in regular service is Qubes 4497. Once numbering 100 units from the 44 class, a handful have survived into the privatisation era, gradually reducing in numbers over the years although 4497 has somehow managed to keep going working the Harefield shuttles out of Junee for Qube.

Qube owned 4488 had only recently been stored and tarped up at Junee loco in this shot taken on 23-10-18.
4488 had been introduced to traffic on 3-7-1967 and was withdrawn on 2-7-1994 and sold to the Hunter Valley Railway Trust. Independent Rail Australia purchased it from them in April 2009 and was again sold to Qube on 7-6-12. From Mid 2013 until Dec 2016 the loco was stored at Goulburn until reactivated again until stored in October 2018.
Entering service in February 1961, 4458 was withdrawn and sold to the Hunter Valley Railway Trust and purchased by Independent Railway Australia in April 2009 and again sold to Qube on 7-6-12.
like 4488 it was stored at Goulburn from mid 2013 until reactivated in December 2016.
On 23-10-18, 4458 had only just been withdrawn in this view at Junee loco.
Painted in the R&H transport company livery 4717 sits stored at Goulburn on 22-10-18 where it has sat since July 2013.
It was one of 20 built by A Goninan a co at Broadmeadow from 1972 with 4717 entering service on 29-3-73 and being withdrawn from government service in 1990. Ten of the class still survive.
Scrapped at Goulburn by Qube on 10-3-22
4463 was introduced to the NSWGR on 22-12-65 and withdrawn on 6-7-94 after which the Hunter Valley Railway Trust purchased the loco and was leased out to a variety of operators. It was on sold to Independent Railways Australia in 2009 and repainted back into the Red Terror scheme and then onto Qube ownership after the takeover of IRA. On 22-10-18, 4463 is seen stored at Goulburn Workshops in a faded Red Terror scheme.
4463 was scrapped at Goulburn on 31-3-22
