Durch das landschaftliche sehr reizvolle Bača-Tal verläuft die Wocheinerbahn. Auf dieser Strecke verkehren lokbespannte Autozüge, die hauptsächlich durch den Wocheinertunnel fahren und die Fahrzeit mit dem Auto über den Bergpass massiv verkürzen.
Pünktlich um 8 Uhr wurde die Stille kurzzeitig gestört, als 664 109 mit dem AVT 850 von Most na Soči nach Bohinjska Bistrica über das Viadukt in Grahovo ob Bači dröhnte.

Lokbespannte Reisezüge sind in Slowenien mittlerweile selten geworden. Zu den verbliebenen Leistungen zählen die ECs zwischen Villach und Zagreb bzw. Vinkovci, die mit einer ÖBB 1216 bespannt werden. 1216 142 traf ich mit EC 211 (Villach – Vinkovci) bei Podnart an. Im Hintergrund fällt der Blick auf den Ort Ljubno sowie den höchsten Berg der Karawanken, dem 2237 Meter hohen Hochstuhl, an dessen Gipfel direkt die Grenze Österreich/Slowenien verläuft.
Locomotive-hauled passenger trains have now become rare in Slovenia. The remaining services include the ECs between Villach and Zagreb or Vinkovci, which are hauled by an ÖBB 1216. I photographed 1216 142 with EC 211 (Villach – Vinkovci) near Podnart. In the background you can see the village of Ljubno and the highest mountain in the Karawanken, the 2237 meter high Hochstuhl.

On October 13, 2024, right east of Maria Elend, Carinthia province, Austria, a FarRail steam charter passes the großen Suchagraben viaduct on the Großer Dürrenbach, a mountain stream coming down from the Karawanks range. The bridge is located about 1 km before the Großer Dürrenbach flows into the Drava River, which itself flows into the Danube (Donau) about 500 km to the east.

The mountain in the background belongs to the Karawanks range, the border between Austria and Slovenia (former Yugoslavia). The train travels between Rosenbach, the mouth of the Karawanks Tunnel (German: Karawankentunnel) tunnel linking Austria with Slovenia and Maria Elend, in the Rosen Valley. The single-track line was built as an important railroad link, but it is now almost unused, with major electrified itineraries going around it.

Seen as I descended from Kreuzbergl.
The Karawanken mountains can be seen in the distance. There is no access to the 588m summit of Kreuzbergl, it's all woods. I got as close as I could then descended the southern slopes to finish my walk at the Strandbad. Coffee and cake were available at a waterside cafe and then the bus took me back to the city centre.
The name means "Old Pasture", indicating that in the past locals were keeping animals also here, in upper regions, and not only below on the bigger Grajščica meadow.
