Ben walking looking at camera

Retired U.S. Army Col. Ben Skardon, 103.5, a survivor of the Bataan Death March and Clemson University legend, trained for the Clemson 8 Challenge by walking around his neighborhood near the Clemson campus, Jan. 29, 2021. The Clemson 8 Challenge is a virtual run/hike/march created by a team of students, veterans, alumni and friends so Skardon’s mission — to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country in one of the most brutal wartime events in history — will carry on. All proceeds of the event will benefit Clemson's ROTC program. The "8" is for the eight Clemson alumni, including Skardon, who suffered through the Bataan Death March in WWII. (Photo by Ken Scar)
