My father-in-law had an idea to take our little 10 month old son to the aquarium of California Academy of Sciences, located within the large Golden Gate Park of San Francisco.
Our son loved seeing all the fishes for the first time, and we also took a little walk inside the artificial rainforest too.
This is a wonderful natural history museum. Only one thing I hate about is the price of the tickets. Luckily we used the program "Oakland Public Library Discover and Go" so it was free for me and my wife at least, but otherwise I don't know
A returning favorite from the original Academy, the Foucault pendulum provides simple and elegant proof of the Earth's rotation.
Suspended from the ceiling next to Morrison Planetarium, it consists of a 235-pound brass ball attached to a 30-foot-long steel aircraft cable. The plane of the pendulum's swing appears to rotate 220 degrees every day. Since no rotational forces act on the pendulum, it must be the Earth beneath that is actually rotating.

Not sure how to say this without coming off completely nerdy, but we calculated when pins would fall so we could watch it happen!
