The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway continues Jim Thorpeās rich railroading history, which dates back to the Switchback Railroad that opened in 1827 to haul coal from mines down to the canals along the Lehigh River. Later, passenger rides were added to this line and many consider this gravity railroad to be the precursor to roller coasters.
Thank you so much for visiting and taking the time to comment!
I really appreciate it!
After the LGSR excursion cleared, the Outer Station excursion spun their train around the Jim Thorpe wye. RBMN F9A 270 can be seen here as the consist reversed across the CNJ bridge back towards Jim Thorpe, where the train would be tied down and the crew would wait out the rest of the layover in town.
