The Flickr Lms Image Generatr

A Stanier loco bursting from under the bridge at Loughborough put me in mind of an earlier time. I have posted this shot at Manchester Victoria station before but it is one of my favourites and I make no apologies for uploading this rescanned & tweaked version!

Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45420 was on station pilot duty sorting parcels vans in the terminal platforms which now see Manchester's trams come and go instead. 45420 was built in 1937 by Armstrong Whitworth and was withdrawn from Newton Heath shed 3 weeks after this shot when the shed closed to steam. Like many of the final survivors of the steam era it was cut up at Draper's scrapyard in Hull in early 1969.

This is a scanned image that goes back to a visit in 1990.

BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No 80079 approaches Blaenau Ffestiniog from the 2.5 mile Ffestiniog Tunnel with Past Time Rail's 'The Conwy Climber' railtour from Crewe to Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog on 3rd May 1998. This was the first steam working to Blaenau Ffestiniog since 1968.

Photo taken at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway probably sometime during June 1979.
I used a Pentax MX 35mm SLR camera with a 50mm f/2.8 Pentax SMC M lens and Agfachrome colour transparency film.
