Mount Fitz Roy, El Chalten, Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina

While in Southern Patagonia we visited the Perito Moreno Glacier, a 97 square-mile mass of ice, which until 2020 was accumulating mass as fast as it was losing it. But since then what had been an unusually stable glacier has been receding, like every other other glacier on our planet. I loved that there was still some fall color in the trees and shrubs at the viewing area. The glacier was spectacular enough, but that pop of yellow really added to the beauty of the scene, contrasting with the aquamarine water of Lake Argentino. While I was there I witnessed several calving events, where a big column of ice breaks off the glacier with a thunderous boom and smashes into the water. I was lucky enough to snap a series of images of one such calving event, which I will get around to processing soon.
We slowly climb west and higher towards our goal, a high viewpoint of Mont Fitz Roy. And its a clear day! However I find the view to the east to be most interesting. These twisted and folded hills with a dusting of fresh snow are the southern edge of the Meseta del Viento, the Wind Plateau. Below the plateau is Lago Viedma. Patagonia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patagonia
Patagonia is a geographical region that encompasses the southern end of South America, governed by Argentina and Chile. The region comprises the southern section of the Andes Mountains with lakes, fjords, temperate rainforests, and glaciers in the west and deserts, tablelands, and steppes to the east. Patagonia is bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and many bodies of water that connect them, such as the Strait of Magellan, the Beagle Channel, and the Drake Passage to the south.
