The Hastings Tramways Company : Time Table : 14 September 1955 : cover

The 14 September 1955 issue of the timetables for Hastings trolleybuses services issued by the Hastings Tramways Company although the "Tramways Company" had ceased to operate trams in 1929 when they replaced the town's tramways with trolleybuses. The adverts, and indeed the 'legal' address, make note of the Maidstone & District Motor Services Ltd. who had owned the Hastings Tramways Company since 1935. Shortly after this timetable was issued M&D made the decision to wind up the HTC and abandon trolleybus operation. The former happened in 1957 and the latter in 1959, services then being provided by M&D diesel buses.

The trolleybuses covered quite an extensive area in the town and neighbouring St. Leonards along with some quite rural areas; the longest run was along the coast to the adjacent town of Bexhill on Sea and Cooden Beach.

This copy is overstamped "Free Copy - for Official Use Only".
