Vintage French postcard. Nos artistes dans leur loge, Hasti, Comoedia 326.
Robert Hista, known as Robert Hasti or simply Hasti, was a French actor. He was born on 6 March 1880 in Paris and died on 2 April 1962 in Issy-les-Moulineaux.
Debuting on stage towards 1907, for years Hasti acted at the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens in Paris, e.g. in 1909 as Lycon in Maurice Donnay's Lysistrata, with Cora Laparcerie in the title role and also Roger Karl and Lou Tellegen, and dance by Stacia Napierkowska. Hasti more often acted opposite Laparcerie in stage comedies at the same theatre in the pre-WWI years. After the First World War, Hasti acted at the Théâtre national de l'Odéon and other Parisian theatres. He played the title role in Roger Bontemps in 1920 at the Odeon. His last known stage performance was in 1932 in L'affaire de la rue Royale by Max Maurey.
Hasti debuted on screen already in 1906 in Pathé Frères farce with Charles Prince (the future Rigadin): Un monsieur qui suit les dames, by Georges Monca, while in 1912 he had the lead in the Pathé comedy La dernière aventure du prince Curaçao, by Georges Denola. In 1919-20 Hasti acted in a drama and a comedy by Georges Champavert: L'oeil de Saint Yves (1919) and Les deux jarretières (1919), both with Julian, René Norbert, and Geneviève Félix. In 1920 Hasti acted in Luitz-Morat' comedy Rien à louer, on a modern Robinson Crusoë. In the early 1930s, Hasti returned on screen in five comedies, e.g. as the merryman in the French alternative version Un rêve blond (André Daven & Paul Martin, 1932) with Lilian Harvey, and as the captain in the military comedy Champignol malgré lui (Fred Ellis, 1933), starring Dranem. After the Second World War, Hasti had a last performance in another military comedy, Tire-au-flanc (Fernand Rivers, 1950), a remake of a film by Jean Renoir.
