He is living life large with the wild ducks. A domestic farm breed. They cannot fly but they can run really fast. Larger than most ducks. The curl on the tail makes it a male.

I could see movement back there & finally they came out of hiding. A pretty pair of wigeons. It is duck mating season & they are starting to pair up.

Trying to get a shot of this duck that was rapidly swimming in my direction. He kept moving out of my frame. Finally got this one photo before he was entirely too close for my camera.

Barry had spent a long time preening & carefully arranging his feathers for his photoshoot. He wanted to look just right.

Thought I'd keep this shot as a size comparison. There were several male ducks hanging out together.

That moment when two subjects get close enough to get them both in the shot. Added bonus if you can get them each in focus. Yippee!

The green stripe does not show up much when the light does not hit it right, just looks like a dark stripe. Still a handsome duck.

One of our handsome winter ducks. Challenging to photograph between that white forehead and the green stripe that can't be seen until the sun hits it just right. Very happy when this guy came close, then turned to catch the light.

A male wigeon posed for me in the sunlight. I love that green stripe when the light hits it just right. A handsome duck. However....when a bunch of the males start talking amongst themselves, it always cracks me up. Their voice sounds just like tiny rubber duckies squeaking.

Most of the wigeons I saw were in their breeding colors but this one was slightly different. He was in full breeding colors except for the top of his head. Instead of pure white, it had a yellow tinge. I guess this is a transitional look.

He was beautiful but he came a bit too close for me to get all of him in the shot. He was scooping up little bits of food right under the surface.
